Mission Statement:  

The mission of the MMC-RU Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to serve every student in partnership with parents, staff, and community, to ensure student success through a strong foundation of learning skills specifically in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development.


At Marcus Elementary, every student is served within the three School Counseling domain areas.  Examples of these principles are listed below.


Academic Skills:  

  • Character Class (classroom instruction)

  • Team meetings with staff

  • Successfully Teaching At-Risk Students (STARS)

  • Grade level transitioning


Career Development:

  • Career exploration

  • Goal setting

  • Team-building activities


Social/Emotional Skills:

  • Pillars of Character foundational model

  • Facilitate small groups on topics including friendship, listening, conflict resolution, grief, and changing families

  • Individual counseling

  • Purple Hands Pledge (bullying prevention)
